Megan Hawkins and Delaney Watson are among only 16 players chosen nationwide for the U21 Team Canada Volleyball training group. After an intensive training camp this June in Kitchener, Ontario, a final squad of 12 will be selected to compete at the U21 NORCECA Championships from June 23 to July 1 in Toronto.

Two local players are on the Canadian squad at this week’s U21 NORCECA Continental Championship in Toronto.

Delaney Watson of St. Jacobs and Megan Hawkins of Kitchener made the team from a selection camp and will open the eight-team tournament on Tuesday against Costa Rica, starting at 7 p.m. The qualifying event for next year’s world U21 championship is at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.

Watson is an Elmira District Secondary School graduate now at the University of Toronto, and Hawkins attended Grand River Collegiate before moving on to Simon Fraser University. Both played for the KW Predators Volleyball Club.

Canada will also play the U.S. Virgin Islands and Mexico in pool play. The United States, Dominican Republic, Suriname and Puerto Rico are in the other pool.

The Toronto tournament will be livestreamed at www.cbcsports.ca.
