On Sunday February 3rd, the first of two workshops hosted by Waterloo
Sports Medicine took place for the 13U and 14U Girls teams. The workshops,
based on the 07-08 partnership between WSM and the KW Predators, is
the first of its kind in the Waterloo Region for club volleyball.
The workshops were designed to raise the awareness of common volleyball
related injuries for athletes, parents, and coaches. As well, to have
the athletes complete various physical testing to discover any immediate
gaps with physical activity.
“We wanted to have all the athletes become familiar with common
issues facing today’s volleyball player.” said Stephen Green,
13U Girls Head Coach. “We also wanted to have all the athletes
become comfortable with the WSM staff so that if they ever need to visit
the clinic, they will not have the fear that many young athletes face.”
"We were thrilled to have the opportunity to provide the Predators
players, athletes and coaches with education on Sport Medicine.”,
said Laurie Vandenhoff, Educational Co-ordinator at WSM. “Providing
this type of information to young athletes can help them stay injury
free and improve upon their sporting skills for years to come."
The second workshop for the 15U Girls, 16U Girls and 18U girls will
take place this Sunday February 10th.
