Ontario Championship GOLD for KW Predators 14U Girls April 16-18
WOW!! What words can describe the wonderful season the 14U Girls had this year. Each athlete has improved so much. Our team has improved so much, notwithstanding the results. Our tournament finishes have been “icing on the cake.” We finished in the top 5 in every tournament we played in this year. We capped the successful season with an Ontario Championship. We are the Division 1 Tier 2 Champions. We are ….Predators!!
A huge “Thank You” goes out to each athlete and their family for their effort and support throughout the season. Your efforts in practice and in tournament play were all that we could ask for. The help with scoring, lining and equipment set-up and take-down were greatly appreciated.
Provincial Recap
Pool play on Friday had our 29th seeded team defeat the 20th seeded Aurora Typhoon 2-0. The next opponent was the 21th seeded Etobicoke Titans Black. They would win 2-0 and eventually lose in the quarter finals of Division 1 Tier. Our final Friday pool opponent was the28th seeded Halton Hurricanes Black team. Another higher seeded team and another victory for the Predators 2-1. This placed the team 2nd in the pool and set us up for day 2 of the tournament.
Day 2 results for Saturday saw the 14U Predators begin the early morning by dropping a 2-0 decision to 9th seeded Toronto West. Our next pool match saw the Predators defeat 13th seeded Waterloo Tigers 2-1. Our final Saturday Pool match was a lost to the 24th seed Halton Hurricanes Blue. This created a three way tie in the pool between us, Waterloo and Halton. Tie-break procedures left us in 3rd place in the pool.
Summary after 2 days, 3 wins, 3 losses, second in Friday’s pool and 3rd in Saturday’s pool. All players played well and contributed to excellent results against all higher seeded teams. This was also the first occasion in which we asked players to specialize positions. The players are to be commended for performing this so seamlessly.
Next up on Sunday were the playoffs for Division 1 Tier 2.
In order to win an Ontario Championship, we would have to win 4 matches.
Match number 1 was against 27th seeded Interclub from Toronto. Our players responded to the challenge and won 24-26, 25-18, 15-12.
Quarter-finals were against 15th seeded Northumberland Breakers. Again another win against a higher seeded team 25-23, 25-11. The team could smell the Ontario Championship around their necks; along with the added incentive of shaving coach Shantz’s head should we prevail.
The semi-final match was against 25th seeded Etobicoke Titans Blue and with excellent playing defeated the Titans 25-12, 25-22.
Championship match was against the Halton Hurricanes Black whom we had defeated on Friday. The Hurricanes had come off an exciting 3 set victory against Stratford in the other semi-final and rushed out to an early 11-5 lead. With consistent and solid attacks the Predators came back and gutted out a 25-23 first set victory. From there it was smooth sailing. The Predators took a commanding 11-0 lead off our first server and never looked back. We finished with a 25-10 Championship victory and Ontario Championship Gold.
Over three days of competition, a 7-3 record. Over 7 tournaments, an overall record of 29 wins, 10 losses, 1 tie. We placed in the top 5 in every tournament, and finished the year medaling the last 3 with a Silver, Gold, and Ontario Championship Gold.
A super year from all 12 players;
Brandy, Abby, Delia, Jessica, Katherine, Courteney, Maddie, Emily, Jace, Tijana, Jelena, and Taylor.
Congratulations to you all for your effort throughout the year. Your achievements are something to be very proud of. You worked hard and you played well. We could ask nothing more than that.

Challenge Cup Summary 14U Girls January 30
Two points from a Bronze Medal. That was the difference between Stratford Stingers Gold team’s Bronze Medal and our fourth place finish at the Challenge Cup played at Kipling Collegiate in Etobicoke. In an exciting Bronze Medal match, the 14U Girls Predator Purple team came back to win the second set to force a 3rd set tie-break. The atmosphere was electric; back and forth play, excited players, worried parents, a missed serve but a re-serve, what more could you ask for? Unfortunately we fell 15-13 to the Stingers and finished 4th to complete another successful tournament.
In the semi-finals the number one seeded Etobicoke Titans Black came away with a 2-0 victory. They are a big and physical team, but we played them point for point and will know what to expect the next time we meet.
Our quarter-final match was a 2-0 victory against Leaside Lightning. This followed our first place finish in pool play with 2-0 wins against Oakville Thunder and E381.
Our record after 4 tournaments and 20 matches; 13 wins, 6 losses and 1 tie. Our placing has been 5th, 5th, 3rd and 4th. Next tournament is February 20th.

The semi-final match was a close 2-0 loss to London’s Forest City, where we fell behind early in the first set and fought hard to come back, but came up short 23-25.
We finished with a 2-0 win over the Waterloo Tigers and a well earned Bronze Medal.
Our record after 3 tournaments and 15 matches is 10 wins, 4 losses and 1 tie. Our placing has been 5th, 5th and 3rd.
The coaches would like to offer congratulations on a well earned Bronze and we look forward to continued success at our next tournament on January 30th.
Girls 14U Provincial Cup Summary December 5
The 14U Girls Predators had a successful start to the competitive season. The team stayed overnight in Windsor to prepare for their tournament at Sandwich S.S. The team played well together; showing much energy and enthusiasm throughout the day. We won our first match against the West Elgin Warriors 2-0 and split our second round-robin match 1-1 with the Essex’s South County Bandits Black. This seeded us 2nd in our pool. Our cross-over playoff game matched us up against our younger 13U Predators, where we won 2-0. Our quarter final opponents were the South County Bandits Teal team. It was a very exciting and entertaining match featuring long rallies and unbelievable saves. The South County team won 2-1. We had one final match against London’s Forest City Green. With a 2-0 win, we finished our first OVA tournament in 5th place.
Congratulations on a good start and thanks to the parents for your support throughout the day.
